“The sky is the limit” – A fabulous exhibition on engineering of architecture and the tallest building in the world Burj Khalifa in Dubai at Utzon Center in Aalborg, Denmark, is drawing to a close.
Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM) who are inventors and early adapters and who have designed skyscrapers and large buildings for the past 80 years collaborated and curated the exhibition. During that time they have worked on over 10,000 projects in over 50 countries.
Recently we had the pleasure to hear more about their projects in the most dynamic cities in the world from one of their own Silas Chiow. Silas was a speaker at the Design Forum in Hong Kong where he also shared his experiences on building environments and human habitations.
“The sky is the limit” exhibition showed sketches, renderings and models of the engineering process for such super structures as well as a DYI space with LEGO-bricks and a virtual reality tour to the heights of the tall buildings.“The sky is the limit” followed another SOM exhibition that took place in Munich, Germany, last spring titled: “SOM – The engineering of architecture” and the book “DETAIL engineering 4: SOM”.
