Where did trend-conscious architects and designers in India go in October? The Architectural Digest Design Show India in Mumbai. Where did artists with an edge go in October? The Architectural Digest Design Show India. Yes, that is right. The inaugural Architectural Digest Design Show from 26 to 28 October at the Dome @NSCI, SVP Stadium in Worli in Mumbai united architects, designers, artisans, design lovers, and makers and creators in the creative industry under one roof. The newest art and design fair in the subcontinent showcased more than 50 international and Indian brands and ten art galleries. During the show days, the program included ultra-lux art and design exhibitions and installations, power talks, master classes, workshops and more. A dedicated zone, provided space for karigars – Indian craftsmen and artisans – to demonstrate traditional crafts with a twist to create relevant contemporary and modern furniture, lighting, décor, and aesthetic objects. The invitation-only experience moved the industry leaders, actors, and practitioners to gather, talk, learn and think about cutting-edge design. The intersection between design and art attracted fans, admirers, and peers of keynote speaker and Pritzker-Prize-winner architect BD Doshi to share thoughts on tropical modernism and discover trends and insights from Sri Lanka. On 28 October, the Kochi Biennale Foundation initiative Art Rises for Kerala (ARK) brought together 40 artists from India to donate pieces of art for the live auction that will take place in January 2019 in Kochi. The event was also supported by Conde Nast India. High-end luxury brands, some of them were sponsors – among them Kohler India with KOHLER Bold. Art. and Taj Mahal Palace Hotel displayed innovative products and services across furniture, textiles, ceramics, and other industries. Another forward trend was the pop-up contemporary Mumbai home inspired by Malabar, the interior design studio of late founder Laura Hamilton, with the latest color trends, and furnishings combining modern and antiques. The Architectural Digest Design Show 2018 captured the tendencies, nuances, and vibes of the design and art industry skillfully under one roof and provided a fantastic place for networking for market players.
