At the end of the day, the beginning of the day, actually pretty much any time of the day everything happens on the ground. Creating, designing, and living on and with flooring is the focus of the Domotex 2019 trade show in Hannover, Germany, from January 11 to 14, 2019, overlapping one day with Heimtextil.
Under the keynote theme of ‘Create ‘n’ Connect’, Domotex 2019, the world’s leading trade fair for floor covering, carpets, rugs, tiles, wood, laminates, and more brings together 1,400 exhibitors from 60 countries to share the latest products, services, and technologies in the flooring industry. The innovative approaches and advancements to the connecting element in a room – the floor – are talked about, discussed, and lectured in various sessions.
Hands-on workshops allow glimpses behind the scene of hand-made carpet making, new tools for visualizing options, weaving techniques, 3D renderings, laying patterns and more.
Architects and designers learn more about the transformation of the industry from a two-dimensional design to 3D-model-based design and state-of-the-art technologies.
A special show focuses on the Wood Life Cycle. The exhibition organized by Total Tool, a Milan-based design studio, showcases the strength, potential, planting, growth, harvest – especially of timber -, finished product, and recycling of the natural material.
In the hand-woven carpet section, the Africa Collection by PAULIG Teppichweberei will certainly create some waves. The woven, interlaced flat textiles can be used on both sides. They are custom died, spun, and knotted by hand into vast landscape designs from the continent. The colors and sophisticated haptics will certainly stop trade show visitors in their tracks and root them to the floor for closer inspection.
Overall a lot of focus of the show will be on sustainability, new techniques such a digital printing directly on skirting profiles and boards replicating exclusive endangered timbers will provide alternatives and new ways to adapt sustainable practices in home building.
Domotex 2019 is a great place to network, get inspiration and updates on lifestyle design. A highlight is the international carpet design competition ‘Carpet Design Awards’. 233 entries from 165 countries were hoping to get shortlisted for the prestigious award and the jury picked three each in eight different categories. The 24 designer carpets are on display and the final vote for the best in each category will be cast on January 12, 2019.
Architects can further maximize their visit by signing up for guided tours and checking out the Carpet Design Awards ceremony, Carpet Star Award, Parquet Star Award, and the ‘Architektur im Dialog’ presentations and discussions.
