Designers, architects, and aspiring newcomers in the field of bathroom designs in Africa get ready! Looking for talents and enthusiasts for bathroom designs to submit their ideas, designs, and imaginations for a 16 square meter modern bathroom on the customized website for the Dream in Kohler Africa design competition.This first Dream in Kohler contest in South Africa is running for the first time and the entries are accepted until 9 May 2018. Kickstarting inspirations are a number of great vignettes on the website under ‘Inspiration Gallery’ to help the contestants on the way to greatness. The participants will develop their own ideas for the bathroom and submit a concept sketch, three 3D renderings, one elevation, two sections, and a spec sheet for possible KOHLER products used.An eclectic jury comprising Maps Maponyane, Marcia Margolius, Greg Scott, Nthabi Taukobong, and Jason Wiggin will deliberate on the entries until 17 May 2018 when the short-list of six projects will be published.Maps Maponyane has more than ten years’ experience in the field of interior design and architecture. He was the host of several TV shows and became a fashion designer due to his inspiration early on. In collaboration with the online retailer Spree, he created his own collection: TheMapsXSpree. He feels that design is a way of life and hence is looking forward to the diverse entries coming from the market.Blogger Marcia Margolius has become known through her blog ‘Marcia Loves It!’ where she posts articles on décor, design, food and lifestyle daily. Over the past 30 years, she has been a leading design and décor expert in South Africa and has traveled all over the world to uncover the latest trends and inspirations in the design world.Gregg Scott, founding partner, at Scott + Partners, has more than 15 years’ experience as an architect and designer who focuses on luxury residential projects and the leisure market. He has also been designing large scale master plans across Africa.Nthabi Tankobong of DITAU Interiors has long been a design inspiration not just for the Kohler Africa team but for the market in general. Recently, she shared her insights in the Global Design Trends with us and stands out with her projects that range from South Africa to Nigeria, DRC, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and further. She loves simple, uncomplicated yet luxurious designs that marry local African designs with the design influences from around the world. In her view, everyone is a designer.
Jason Wiggin is the HOD for interior design at the Greenside Design Center and the youngest ever president of the South African Institute of the Interior Design Professions. His work is cross-disciplinary and ranges from art to product design, architecture, and interior design to stage design. He is looking for unique concepts and detailed finishes.The judges will be done when the shortlist is published in the second half of May but the real work starts for the public after that. Popular votes will be accepted until 7 June 2018 and the final vote will be cast and announced by 12 June 2018.The contestants have a chance to win fame and more during the competition. The first prize of the Dream in Kohler bathroom designs will be realized during this year’s 100% Design – Decorex in Johannesburg, South Africa, in August. The winner will also be staring on one of our videos from the well-known series of Global Design Trends.The runner-up will not go home empty-handed. This design will be implemented and realized in the Kohler Gallery in Johannesburg.The South African design scene is very active and attractive, and we cannot wait to see the first submissions for this contest.
