At the FX Awards on 29 November 2017 in London, UK, architects and designers gathered for the international interior design awards.FX magazine’s Theresa Dowling, editor, hosted the latest FX Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel, a famous hotel overlooking Hyde Park. The historic building that opened in 1929 and over the years welcomed many well-known people including Orson Welles, generals Dwight D. Eisenhower and George S. Patton, Ella Fitzgerald, Henry Kissinger, and even British royal family seemed to be quite a fitting place for these international awards.
More than 50% of the submissions are now from outside of the UK which makes this annual black-tie gala dinner celebrating design excellence a truly global event. The celebration in Europe’s largest banqueting space, the Great Room, was moderated by the comedian Jimmy Carr. The outstanding location in London’s Mayfair district, the famous moderator, and the beautiful displays, were, however, just the backdrop for the real reason top architects and designers from around the world convened. The 18 contest categories and the 24 high-caliber judges were what kept everyone’s attention.
Not an easy job to decide between the best and the very best projects and products. The judges have done an outstanding job in the process and awarded the prizes fairly.
A category of particular interest was the Product Designer of the Year Award. Our UK team sponsored this category and Mark Bickerstaffe had the honor to hand over the trophy to Anna Hart, the winner. She is one of the founding directors of MARK Product, a design firm that is based in Cornwall, UK, and manufactures all their sofas, chairs, benches, tables, stools and more exclusively in the United Kingdom.
After the official part of the evening, the party continued in a more private setting in the Rink Bar overlooking the Great Room that served in earlier times as an ice rink.
