Based on the success of last year’s KOHLER Design Forum in Hong Kong, the team once again prepares a new and innovative KOHLER Design Forum Hong Kong on 23 November 2018 at Loft 22 in the California Tower in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong, Central Hong Kong. Following the global theme ‘All Things Connected’ of the four other KOHLER Design Forums that took in Singapore, London, Toronto, and soon Dubai, the Hong Kong forum and its speakers from the architecture and design industry will explore the rapid transformation in connectivity, upgrading to IoT lifestyles and adoption of smart technology. The four presentations will focus on improved user experiences especially in the interior design arena. At the end of the evening, the speakers come back up on stage for a lively panel discussion moderated by Suzy Annetta, editor-in-chief of Design Anthology. This year’s speaker line-up comprises well-known names in the industry. The four presenters have extensive experience with new technologies, connectivity, the digital transformation, and the future of smart cities, smart homes, and smart bathrooms.
Ani Bhalekar is a vice president and associate partner at McKinsey & Company in Singapore. He is focused on technology transformations powered by the Internet of Things (IoT) and Digital for Asia. Ani is passionate about the power of digital to unlock value and advises on all aspects of technology – from strategy and design through to build and run. He draws on extensive expertise with mobile and IoT technologies to serve clients across industries and specializes in Industry 4.0, smart buildings, connected transport, and smart cities. Prior to his current position, he was a key contributor at Accenture and Microsoft. Ani has a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland and an executive masters from the Kellogg School of Management.
Steven Shaw is the executive principal of Aedas in Singapore and has an extensive history in design and planning spanning 30 years, 21 in Asia expertise in the corporate and retail sectors. He has worked across Asia, Australia, and America and gained a wealth of insight working in these diverse markets. Trained as an architect, Steven understands the three-dimensionality of space and the impact it can have on people. Significant projects under Steven’s leadership include MTR’s Corporate Headquarters – Hong Kong, Mallesons Stephen Jacques – Sydney, the transformational change of Suncorp Metway in Australia along with the KNMA Art Museum in New Delhi. Utilizing his expertise in working with existing buildings, Steven assists clients to maximize the potential and long-term benefits of their real estate assets as well as attracting and retaining tenants. He prides himself on working closely with his clients to achieve the highest standard of design.
Sankar S. Villupuram is an associate director of Digital Cities Leader at ARUP. He has over 19 years of experience in the design and implementation of operational technology leveraging smart cards, biometrics, video analytics and various kinds of sensors. Sankar has managed several landmark projects in Hong Kong over the past 18 years and gained extensive multidisciplinary experience in the bid to strategic delivery. He holds a board of director position PMI HK Chapter & HKIOTA and is a CPIT (Project Director), PMP, CISA, and CISM. Sankar is currently pursuing his executive course with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Innovation and Leadership. He holds an MBA degree in Marketing and Management in HKUST and a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics from India.
Mark Bickerstaffe is our director of new product development K&B. He joined Kohler in 2004 to lead design and product development across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, and the Asia Pacific regions and now leads a highly talented team of creative people working from studios in Paris, London, Cheltenham and Shanghai, responsible for all Kitchen & Bath product experience design outside of North America. The Hong Kong-based Design Anthology is the media partner for the KOHLER Design Forum in Hong Kong. The quarterly magazine is all about interiors, architecture, design, and urban living. The charming Suzy Annetta will take the audience by the virtual hand and lead guests through the evening of rapidly changing environments in architecture and design. After the panel discussion and Q&A, a rich cocktail is served. All participants get a chance to network and ask further questions and catch up with friends and peers.
