From sundown to sunrise, it is the time to celebrate the Islamic holy month of Ramadan with Iftar, a meal that breaks the daily fast and also the most important meal of the day. During this very special time, it was our great pleasure to welcome 90 designers and architects from Dubai and the region for an Iftar dinner on May 22, 2019, in the heart of Dubai.
The dinner took place at the quaint and charming Greek restaurant, Opa, located in the beautiful Fairmont hotel. The venue is a unique blend of contemporary design and urban chic. It is an icon in the financial district of the city and only just minutes from Dubai’s key attractions such as Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and Jumeirah Mosque.
The hotel has completed a multi-million dollars lobby renovation in 2018 and turned it into a masterpiece right out of a Middle Eastern fairy tale. It features a gigantic 200-kilogram flying carpet that upholds a colorful selection of 150 Arabic lanterns in the center of the room.
One-of-a-kind portraits are paying tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed, the ruler of Abu Dhabi for more than 30 years, designed by a contemporary crystal artist Natalie Dagestani and using more than two million Swarovski crystals to frame the lobby art installation.
After the extravagance of the lobby, the inside of Opa restaurant is quite a contrast with its heartwarming simplicity depicting the well-known Greek blue and white ocean setting.
Guests enjoyed delicious authentic Greek food and experienced authentic classical Middle Eastern music by a Qanun player.
The Iftar dinner concluded with lots of laughter, some traditional Greek dishes smashing, and a gift of exclusive, delicious chocolates and dates that our Middle East team chose for this event. It was a great opportunity to connect with architects and designers and socialize with them in a relaxed setting.
