This newly opened Naumi Auckland airport hotel is the latest addition to the Naumi Hospitality’s portfolio. The Hind Group, a Singaporean based hospitality player, has Naumi hotels in Singapore, Australia, and now in New Zealand.Naumi which auspiciously means ‘9th day’ in Sanskrit is a place of refuge, recharge, and relaxation for the sophisticated traveler. Conjuring up feelings of residence and sanctuary, the 193-room boutique hotel with private patios and balconies near the international airport truly has its own personality.
Inspired by the native Tui bird and the colors of its natural habitat, the contemporary, stylish design of the hotel creates a memorable guest experience (without even talking about the hospitality services yet). Upon entering the lobby, travelers are met by a 2.5-meter birdcage and an impressive chandelier. Behind the check-in desk is a 24-carat gold textured wall commissioned from the NY Art Department (NZ) mimicking bird feathers. Throughout the property are visual art installations that speak to the elegance and senses of the savvy guests’ luxury lifestyle. Accessories, furniture, and artworks were curated from well-known designers and artists such as Skultuna (UK), Johnathan Adler (USA), Zanotta (IT), Kartell (IT), and Poltrona Frau (IT) but also from local talents such as Max Gimblett (NZ) and Arnold Palmer (NZ).
Another piece of the transformation design is the artwork of Belynda Henry. The Australian-based artist recently won the NSW Wynne prize for her depiction of natural landscapes. Her art pieces are displayed in the lobby. The patterns and colors lend themselves so perfectly that they were also depicted in the rugs of the guest rooms. On the one hand, this facilitates the guests’ interactions and engagement with the natural environment especially of the Tuis’ natural surroundings and on the other hand, it is a vibrant connection to art.The Tui birds not only interesting to look at but they are making distinctive sounds. New Zealand-based artist Judi Bagust captures these lyrical notes through ink marks on the canvas. Some frames are displayed in the main dining area and limited edition reprints are visible in the guest rooms. If one were to venture out of the hotel, it is located near Villa Maria Wine Estate and the historic Otuataua Stonefields Reserve and Mangere Mountain. The Watercare’s Coastal Walkway is not far away and to complete the circle there is an Outdoor Sculpture Gallery.
Another bird inspired hotel is on the grounds of the Segera Retreat in Kenya, Africa.
