The series of 2019 PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards were kicked off with the 2019 PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Malaysia) in Kuala Lumpur on April 12, 2019.
The prestigious gala and black-tie dinner event gathered more than 500 senior industry players in the stunning ballroom of the Majestic Hotel in Malaysia’s capital to celebrate the best and the most innovative projects and real estate marketers in the country.
The sixth edition of the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Malaysia) was to date the biggest and best attended. It was also a good and positive sign for the real estate market that is slowly picking up speed after the quiet period in 2018 and the change in government.
According to the World Bank, Malaysia is changing from an upper middle-income to a high-income economy by 2024 with an average 5.4% annual GDP growth. To accommodate the growing and developing market and the needs of Malaysian and foreign investors, the real estate market is rapidly expanding.
Luxury high-rise buildings continue to go up in Kuala Lumpur, the industrial sector sees increased activities, and with the arrival of renown international hotel brands, an influx of more affluent tourists is expected.
All are excellent signs for the Malaysian real estate market and that was reflected in the festive atmosphere at the PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards (Malaysia). Guests of honor were Tuan Hizwan, political secretary to the Malaysian minister of Housing and local government and H.E. Zuraida Kamaruddin who supported this positive market sentiment with their presence and speeches.
The eclectic independent jury consisting of jury chair Prem Kumar, executive director and CEO of Blaine Robert Design Sdn Bhd and Blaine Robert Lifestyle Sdn Bhd, Boon Che Wee, director of GRA architects, Chris Tia, principal of Tia & Noordin, Datuk Ar Hj Siful Anuar Abdul Aziz, principal of Arte Axis Design Group, Dr. Daniele Gambero, CEO of REI Group of Companies, Ir. Dr. Zulhkiple A Bakar, managing director of Perunding ZNA, Sr Low Han Hoew, senior manager Investment of Nawawi Tie Leung Real Estate Consultants Sdn Bhd, and Tan Hui Yin, partner of Tan Chap & Associates selected 28 winners from the shortlist.
The overall winners were MRCB Land and boutique developer JKG Land to take home the largest number of trophies that evening. Other accolades recipients included township developer Matrix Concepts Group with a special recognition in industrial and logistic development and Venus Assets Sdn Bhd, the team behind the mixed-use Four Seasons Place in KL. The Best of Malaysia winners Astaka Padu Sdn Bhd and Gamuda Land also stood out with their excellent projects.
The evening was a blasting affair of celebration, good food, meeting new friends and making new acquaintances. The Kohler booth outside of the ballroom provided a pleasant distraction from exchanging business cards and clinking champagne glasses.
