The fourth PropertyGuru Myanmar Property Awards at the Sedona Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar, saw a record attendance of 370 industry leaders, guests, and media on 10 August 2018. As last year, Richard Emerson, managing director of Emerson Real Estate (Myanmar), was the chairman of the judging panel who decided on the winners in four PropertyGuru Myanmar categories. These comprised developers, design, developments, and the publisher’s choice. The most credible and biggest event in the real estate market in Myanmar brought everyone from the small to the big players in the market together to celebrate their achievements. Despite the still challenging property market in Myanmar, the marketers are positive. Although foreign direct investments have slowed after the first hype in 2012, the government is working hard to support the private sector to improve the situation and create more favorable market conditions. Overall the country has all the stepping stones for a thriving real estate market: a young, ambitious population, lots of natural resources, and a fast-growing economy. The judges and PropertyGuru have decided on new subcategories for the awards in 2018 including CSR, sustainability, best educational development, and special recognitions in customers care and design and construction. The judges awarded the 2018 Myanmar Real Estate Personality of the Year accolade to U Yang Ho. His company Mottama Holdings secured the most positions on the shortlist. He has been widely recognized for his contributions to the country’s built environment and his engagement to enrich Yangon’s urban landscape. In addition, he was paramount in elevating the standards of construction practices. Mottama Development Group Co. Ltd received 13 accolades including ‘Best Developer’ and the special recognition for design and construction. Other winners were Golden Land Real Estate Development Co. Ltd. with four awards, City Properties Co. Ltd. and Universal City Company Limited (together) took home three trophies. The main winners of the PropertyGury Myanmar Property Awards qualify for the annual Property Guru Asia Property Award Grand Finale that will take place in Bangkok in November 2018. This event will award the ‘Best in Asia’.
