Joe Azzarello’s Middle East tour took him and the team to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia’s capital, after completing a very successful seminar in Jeddah. The location of SABIC Home of Innovation (HOI) was again the perfect location for the workshops that lay ahead on 3 and 4 April 2018.The SABIC HOI is the recipient of a LEED Platinum certification. The single-family home demonstration house is the first to receive this accolade in the Middle East region for its net-zero energy consumption whereby energy consumed is the energy produced by the house itself. The HOI in Riyadh’s Techno-Valley on the grounds of King Saud University is a center for growth, innovation, and development. Hence, the ideal environment for the two action-packed days of LEED Green Associate workshops that Joe conducted. The 30 participants from government and private sectors were eager to learn about LEED implementation processes, project site factors, water management, energy impacts, synergistic opportunities, and stakeholder involvement in innovation. It was a great preparation for the upcoming LEED certification exam.Basically, this is what the SABIC HOI is all about as well. The center is a collaborative effort between Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), a petrochemical industry enterprise, and industry-leading companies to develop smarter solutions in an ever-changing world. The think tank focuses on construction, energy, consumer goods, and transportation. Participants from industry partners that have an interested in coming up with new initiatives to address global challenges such as urbanization, growing population, raising energy consumptions, the emergence of a middle class, and economic influences shifts, and an intention to grow business in Middle East and North Africa (MENA).At HOI, great thinkers don’t stop at initiatives and ideas, though. The concepts are tested with the support and collaboration of companies that provide cutting-edge solutions in technology, productions, and manufacturing. Outcomes are applied and implemented in the HOI where visitors can have interactive and memorable experiences with inspired products and systems. As one of the partners in the field of performance, we are glad to show technical features and latest products such as the intelligent toilet Numi and Karbon™ kitchen faucets, at the same time, we like to remind visitors to the demonstration house that innovation and technology can be well designed and beautiful. The Stillness™ bathroom collection and the Marrakesh™ Artist Editions sink are the attests to that. The environmental changes are not limited to HOI, the Techno-Valley or Saudi Arabia. They affect the whole world and it is the aim to find solutions in leadership, performance, and systems at HOI that are easily, cost-efficiently, and sustainably applicable anywhere in the world.Joe had so much fun with the LEED workshops that he continued with a half-day seminar on US and SASO Water Fixtures Regulations related to LEED and WELL Standards. The 20 participants including team members from Saudi National Water Company and Saudi Arabian Standards Organization (SASO) updated their knowledge on the latest water fixture standards and happily learned about our water-saving products.HOI is the ideal place for conferences and workshops on sustainable practices and finding alternative solutions. The showcase house is also a strong stepping stone towards achieving Saudi Vision 2030.
