Not only its latitude and longitude make this all-inclusive adults-only resort unique. The Unico 20° 87° in Riviera Maya, a decent enough distance from the Cancun international airport to be considered remote but not too far out to be thought of as rural, offers an authentic Mexican experience that few other hotel properties can offer.
Inspired by the rich Riviera Maya surrounding charm and character, the 448-room and 39-suite resort opened in March 2017 directly on the beach between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. A special hospitality concept featuring local culture, abundant wellness options and total relaxation with all the luxuries one can wish for, was quickly recognized by readers of Condé Nast Traveler as one of the best all-inclusive destinations in Mexico.
The contemporary design includes modern Mexican touches and trends that we have recently seen at Habitat Expo. They are delicately applied throughout the property and grounds. Concrete floors complement the locally sourced wooden, handcrafted furniture to give rooms sleek, yet slightly rustic looks. The ground-floor rooms all have private swim-up pools and the upstairs rooms with balconies sport-hydro spa tubs and amazing panoramic views.
Interiors in the rooms and the five restaurants are designed and crafted by local artisans and artists. Some of their crafts, such as mural painting, are even available to learn through pop-up workshops on the hotel grounds.
Where and when the artists will share their insights of the Mayan and Mexican culture can easily be found on the hotel’s own app. The app also offers a turndown service selection, reservation click-through menus for the restaurants and spa, and notification for all reservations made during the stay.
Typically all-inclusive guests stay on the hotel properties during their entire vacation. Unico 20° 87° offers excursions that are just too intriguing and popular not to check out. The immersive experience of zip lining through the jungle, dining with the locals at the Mayan village and dipping into the Tankah Cenote natural pool is too enticing to pass up.
Guests learn about Mexican culture, food and customs through their all-inclusive, all-encompassing experiences. The vast food, wellness and activities options–and let’s not forget the curated pillow menu–are just a few elements that contribute to the total relaxation of body, mind and soul.
Unico 20° 87° might not completely revolutionize the all-inclusive hospitality scene but it certainly made a strong impression on the travel industry experts. Refined luxury with an authentic and localized experience is what the modern, sophisticated traveler is looking for.
